Saturday, 16.07. During the last errands for a wedding I hurried past the wonderful bookstore Otherland in Kreuzberg…and stopped despite the hurry (I was best man at a wedding). A small notice in the door said, “Reading Evening with Kevin Hearne on 07/17/2022.”

The man who gave me (and also very many other fans) the Chronicles of the Iron Druid. Countless hours on the road with Atticus and Oberon in a world full of myths, legends and Thor the asshole ;).

I had to try to be there in any case. I quickly sent an email to the store and 15 minutes later (they are really fast at Otherland!) I got a cancellation…what a bummer…but I was way too late, because the reading was supposed to take place the next day.

Well, it was worth a try. Tied my tie and off to the wedding.

The next evening

7:07 p.m.: We are just eating some sushi when my cell phone lights up. An email from Otherland.

“Hey Kolja, if you can still make it spontaneously…”

Already, devouring the last maki sushi piece, I type my reply, “Iph kome on jdm Pfal!!!”

Since it starts from 19:30 I swing me on the wheel and am there after 10 minutes.

There are already a lot of guests on site, wildly buying the other published books in addition to the aforementioned Druid Chronicles. I line up and get the first two volumes of the, yes I know similar title, “Chronicles of the Seal Mage”. I had already devoured the audiobooks with my ears, but of course it doesn’t make a good signing.

So the text won’t be too long… the evening was so great. Kevin Hearne is great, the people of Otherland are great, and Thor is…still an ass.

I really recommend these books to you guys. If you’re a fan of novels in the style of Terry Pratchett’s Discworld novels or Alan Dean Foster’s Spellsinger cycle, you’ll get your money’s worth.
